Statement of Faith
Scripture. We believe:
(1) The Bible, also known as Holy Scripture, consists of the 39 books of the Old Testament and the 27 books of the New Testament, while written by men, was inspired by God the Holy Spirit in such a way that it is the inerrant and infallible written Word of God.
(2) As revelation from God, the Bible is the supreme and authoritative rule in all matters of faith and life.
(3) The Bible is the sufficient and only written Word of God for all mankind.
God. We believe:
(1) In one God eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son (Jesus Christ), and Holy Spirit. They are all of the same substance and are coequal.
(2) God is just, wrathful against unrighteousness, all powerful, all knowing, loving, and patient. God is actively interested and involved in the affairs of men.
(3) God created heaven and earth and all things that are visible and invisible.
(4) In one Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of the Father. Jesus was begotten, not created, before the creation of the world.
(5) Jesus was incarnate of the Holy Spirit by the Virgin Mary, and while on earth He was both fully God and fully man.(6) As atonement for our sins, Jesus was willingly crucified under Pontius Pilate, suffered death, and was buried. On the third day He was bodily resurrected as predicted by Scripture. He ascended into Heaven after proving to His disciples that He was alive. He is now seated at the right hand of God the Father.
(7) Jesus shall return bodily in the clouds, fully visible.
(8) All judgment has been given to Jesus by the Father, and He will judge men according to what they have done. Those whose names are found in the Book of Life will inherit eternal life, but those whose names are not found in the Book of Life will be cast into the lake of fire.
(9) The Holy Spirit is God and the Giver of life. He is sent from God the Father to convict the world of guilt in regard to sin, righteousness, and judgment.
(10) The Holy Spirit is the Comforter sent to be with believers forever, teaching believers all things, and bringing to remembrance the teachings of Jesus.
(11) The Holy Spirit helps believers in their weakness, interceding with groans that words cannot express. He also pleads for believers in accordance with the will of God.
Man. We believe:
(1) God created man in His own image and gave man dominion over all the earth. Man is unique in that he has a spirit, soul, and body. He has a conscience and the ability to choose between right and wrong.
(2) Whereas man was created without sin, he became a sinner in nature through the transgression of Adam, so that all of his actions, motivations, and thoughts are tainted with sin. With the exception of Jesus Christ, all men are sinners, both through Adam’s sin and through the sins they actually commit.
(3) The punishment required by God for sin is death, both physical and spiritual. Natural man is therefore under the judgment and condemnation of God. He is lost, spiritually dead, under Satan’s power, having no righteousness of his own. He cannot do anything to make himself right with God and cannot enter the Kingdom of God.
Salvation. We believe:
(1) To enter the Kingdom of God a man must be born again. This involves admission of sins, repentance, belief in and personal reception of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Born again believers are sealed with the promised Holy Spirit.(2) Salvation is possible only through Jesus Christ. Salvation is a free gift of God that a man receives by grace through faith and not of his own works. A result is eternal life without condemnation.
(3) Salvation involves the redemption of a man by the finished work of Jesus Christ when He gave His life as a substitutionary atonement for as many as will believe in Him. As a result, believers in Christ are justified before God and declared righteous, becoming adopted sons and joint heirs with Christ.
Christian Life. We believe that being a true Christian involves more than intellectual assent to doctrine and more than a profession of faith. It involves a continuing personal relationship with Christ and a heart that is warm to the things of the Spirit which are indicated by the following:
(1) Must have been baptized
(2) Must engage in weekly public and private worship of God
(3) Must regularly partake of the Lord’s Supper
(4) Must be affiliated with, active in, and submitting in the Lord to the duly ordained government of a particular Bible-believing church
(5) Must share the Gospel with others as God gives abilities and opportunities
(6) Must minister in a special way to the spiritual, emotional, and physical needs of those in difficult situations.
(7) Must live in obedience to the law of God as found in the Old and New Testaments
